About Malone.
Malone, Florida, located in the northern region of the state is not directly along the coast, thereby reducing some of its vulnerability to storm surges. However, this doesn't eliminate potential threats, as hurricanes produce far-reaching effects including high winds, rainfall, and tornadoes. In terms of flooding, Malone does not have a high risk compared to coastal towns but heavy rainfall from a slow-moving or stalling hurricane could pose a significant threat. High gusts of wind can also cause damage, particularly to buildings, trees, and power lines, often resulting in power outages and property damage. Looking at historical records of the past 30 years, Malone has not had a direct hit from a major hurricane. However, it has experienced the effects of several major storms. In 2018, Hurricane Michael passed near the area, bringing with it heavy winds and rainfall, proving to be a defining factor in the awareness and preparation of the town for potential future hurricanes. Additionally, numerous flood events were reported in adjacent counties largely as a result of tropical systems that have moved through the region. Thus, despite the town’s inland location, it's still essential that officials and residents remain prepared for potential hurricanes and associated impacts such as high wind and heavy rainfall-induced flooding.
