It is important to note that Crescent City is slightly elevated, which can help prevent severe flooding but does not completely eliminate the potential risk. The elevated areas could experience runoff and drain into lower regions of the town, causing localized flooding. Looking at historical records, Crescent City was significantly impacted by Hurricane Dora in 1964, causing considerable flood damage. As recent as 2017, Hurricane Irma also had a significant impact, bringing large amounts of rainfall and causing varied degrees of damage. In fact, hurricane passings of varying severity have been frequent but sporadic over the last 30 years. These have occasionally resulted in secondary disasters including floods and the damaging of infrastructure. The impacts, while not monumental, have continually posed a testing challenge to the city's disaster response initiatives.
