Looking at the historical hurricane impacts, no major hurricanes have made a direct landfall in Lee in the past 30 years. However, some powerful storms have come close, causing significant effects. Hurricane Michael in 2018, for instance, was a Category 5 storm that devastated parts of the Florida Panhandle and triggered severe weather conditions in Madison County, where Lee is located. Similarly, tropical storms and depressions often bring heavy rain to the area, increasing the risk of flooding. A notable instance was in 2004 when remnants of Hurricane Frances caused heavy rainfall and flooding in Madison County. As the climate changes, the frequency and intensity of these events could potentially increase, thus necessitating efficient planning and preparation.
