World Golf Village in Florida, being approximately 20 miles inland from the Atlantic coast, is still susceptible to the impacts of hurricanes, especially in terms of heavy rainfall and strong winds. Its low elevation enhances flood vulnerability. Unlike coastal areas, storm surge is not a primary concern for the World Golf Village community, but its extensive system of streams and water bodies might cause substantial inland flooding following torrential rainfall during tropical storms and hurricanes. This area is crisscrossed by numerous small rivers and tributaries that could overflow their banks and cause flooding, especially in heavily developed areas with considerable impervious surfaces. Wind damage, power outages, and blocked roadways due to downed trees and debris are other significant concerns during hurricanes. Looking back at the storm history, in the past 30 years, World Golf Village has been indirectly impacted by several significant hurricanes. Most recently, Hurricane Irma in 2017 presented significant amounts of rain leading to extensive water damage, while Hurricane Matthew in 2016 resulted in strong wind impacts. Additionally, the significant hurricanes of the 2004 season, notably Frances and Jeanne, impacted this area. While World Golf Village has avoided a direct hit by a major hurricane during this time period, the historical pattern and the vulnerability factors emphasized here suggest that residents should remain prepared for potential storms in the future, focusing particularly on the risks of flooding and wind damage.
