Garcon Point, located in Santa Rosa County, Florida, is subject to significant hurricane threats due to its proximity to the Gulf of Mexico. This coastal location puts it directly in the path of hurricanes forming in the Gulf, and the flat, low-lying terrain of the area does not provide any natural barriers against high winds and storm surges. Historical flood risk is also substantial, with the area frequently experiencing floods during hurricane events due to storm surges and heavy rainfall. Poor drainage in certain areas can exacerbate flooding, further endangering the local community and infrastructure. In addition to wind and water damage, hurricanes can also bring additional hazards such as power outages due to downed lines and flying debris. Over the past 30 years, several major hurricanes have impacted Garcon Point. Most notably, in 2004, Hurricane Ivan made landfall in nearby Gulf Shores, Alabama as a Category 3 storm, and the town suffered significant wind and water damage.
