Reviewing weather history, the area witnessed substantial impact from Hurricane Charley in 2004 which reached category 4, causing significant property damage due to high-speed winds and heavy precipitation. A more recent example is Hurricane Irma in 2017, a category 5 storm that wreaked havoc with extreme winds and rain. Significant rain led to flooding afterwards, a prime example of the town's flood risk despite being removed from the coastline. Therefore, residents of Spring Lake must adequately prepare for potential hurricanes and the subsequent rainfall, despite their distance from the coastline. Measures should include securing property against high winds and having a flood plan in place.
