Notably within the last 30 years, Maitland was heavily impacted by the 2004 hurricane season, when it was hit by back-to-back hurricanes Charley, Frances, and Jeanne. During these storms, the town experienced extensive water and wind damage. Hurricane Charley, a category 4 storm, led to significant destruction of property and prolonged power outages. Furthermore, the rainfall brought by these hurricanes resulted in substantial flooding in areas of lower elevation and near bodies of water.
