About Trinity.
Trinity, Florida, is located in Pasco County about 12 miles from the Gulf of Mexico, which exposes the area to high risks during hurricane season. Its relatively flat elevation, with an average of around 26 feet above sea level, leaves the area susceptible to storm surge and flooding, especially during high-intensity hurricanes. Notably, the area has retention ponds for managing normal rainfall water, but heavy rainfall from storms can overwhelm these systems leading to flooding. The storm impacts for Trinity don’t only encompass flooding: hurricanes can also bring high wind speeds, which can damage infrastructure, cause power outages, and uproot trees. Historically, the area has been impacted by several major hurricanes and tropical storms. In the past 30 years, notable events include Hurricane Irma in 2017 which caused widespread wind damage and power outages. In 2004, Hurricanes Frances and Jeanne passed to the east of Trinity, but heavy rains caused local flooding. Tropical Storm Debby in 2012 had a significant impact, as it followed a slow path across Florida, dropping a high amount of rainfall and causing severe flooding in numerous places including Trinity. In close proximity to the coast, the potential for tropical storm force winds in Trinity is relatively high during any tropical cyclone event, whether it be a tropical storm or a major hurricane.
