Campbellton, Florida, which is situated approximately 60 miles inland from the Gulf of Mexico, possesses a moderate risk of experiencing hurricane impacts due to its distance from the coast. Although the town itself is over 50 feet above sea level, which mitigates the threat of storm surge to a certain extent, its proximity to the Chattahoochee River introduces a substantial flood risk during a heavy rainfall event. The region has also been struck by powerful winds during hurricanes, which can cause extensive property damage and power outages.

Historically, some of the most significant hurricanes impacting Campbellton in the last 30 years included Hurricane Opal in 1995 and Hurricane Michael in 2018. Both storms resulted in widespread damage due to strong winds and excessive rainfall. Additionally, despite the town’s elevation, there have been several instances of flooding in the last three decades, most notably in 1994 when the region experienced one of the worst floods in its history due to the passage of Tropical Storm Alberto.
