About Lake Butler.
Lake Butler, Florida, is located relatively inland in comparison to other Florida towns making it less prone to direct hurricane landfall. However, the town is not exempt from hurricane and tropical storm impacts. The primary concern in Lake Butler with hurricane threats is overwhelming rainfall, leading to flash floods and localized flooding. Despite the town's elevation of 174 feet, compared to coastal areas, excessive rain can overwhelm local drainage capabilities. From a historical perspective, Lake Butler was significantly affected by Hurricane Irma in 2017, which brought storm surge, heavy rain, and flooding to the region. Additionally, in 2004, the town suffered from the impacts of three major hurricanes: Charley, Frances, and Jeanne. Their cumulative effect resulted in record-setting rainfall for the region that year and consequential flooding. Therefore, though the direct storm surge impacts of hurricanes are lower due to Lake Butler's inland location, the potential for extreme rainfall-induced flooding remains considerable.
