About Three Lakes.
Three Lakes, Florida, despite being located inland, is not completely immune from the substantial impacts of hurricanes. Although the town does not face the immediate coastal impacts such as storm surge, it can still experience the secondary impacts of these known storms, including high winds, torrential downpours, and inland flooding. Furthermore, being relatively flat, the area has low soil permeability, leading to standing water and increased flood risk. Historically, Three Lakes has been indirectly impacted by severe storms such as Hurricane Andrew in 1992 and the recent Hurricane Irma in 2017. Particularly during Hurricane Irma, areas of Three Lakes received over 10 inches of rainfall, leading to considerable flooding. Considering these historical events and the potential for increased hurricane activities due to climate change, strategies for flood mitigation and improved drainage systems need to be devised for the future management of hurricane impacts.
