Furthermore, considering the entire region is heavily forested, strong winds can cause serious damage and power outages due to falling trees and limbs. Historically, the region has seen substantial impact from major hurricanes. Hurricane Hermine in 2016 passed alarmingly close, causing considerable damage due to winds and rainfall. In 1993, the infamous "Storm of the Century”, struck the area directly, bringing devastating destruction. Furthermore, in 2004, Hurricane Frances caused severe flooding, notably impacting Otter Creek.
