About Villas.
Villas, Florida, is located in Lee County, on the Gulf Coast of the state. At or near sea level, the town's low elevation and proximity to the coastline make it susceptible to hurricane threats, notably storm surge flooding. Historically, Villas has frequently fallen directly within the path of storms and hurricanes making landfall on the west coast of Florida. Being closer to the coastline makes this area more vulnerable to flooding even from smaller storms or tropical depressions. Another potential hurricane impact for this area includes strong winds which can cause property damage, especially to older constructions not built to withstand such situations. Reflecting on significant cyclonic events over the past three decades, Hurricane Charley in 2004 proved to be particularly devastating for Lee County, and specifically for Villas. As a Category 4 hurricane, Charley brought incredibly strong winds and a significant storm surge, resulting in damage to many properties in the region. More recently, Hurricane Irma in 2017 had a similar impact, although it had weakened to a Category 3 by the time it reached this part of Florida. Each of these events offers valuable insight about potential damage from future storms, emphasizing the potential for both flooding and wind damage in this geography.
