Miramar, Florida, is situated west of the Florida coastline, near Miami. Its location means it is less likely to bear the immediate brunt of an approaching hurricane compared to its coastal counterparts but it is still within the impact zone of severe storms. Since its elevation is just approximately 10 feet above sea level, it could still be significantly affected by heavy rainfall leading to flooding, especially during a hurricane or strong tropical storm event. Major considerations for hurricane impacts include the possibility of severe structural damage from high hurricane-strength winds, particularly for properties not built to withstand such forces, as well as power outages and fallen trees blocking roads and causing damage. Historically, Miramar has been affected by several major hurricanes over the past 30 years. Notably, Hurricane Andrew in 1992, which caused extensive damage to Southern Florida.
