About South Patrick Shores.
South Patrick Shores is located in Brevard County on Florida's east coast, very close to the Atlantic Ocean. In terms of distance from the coast, it is highly susceptible to storm surge, especially since much of the town is at or near sea level. Historically, this area does have some flood risk, primarily from hurricanes. Storm surge from hurricanes can lead to substantial flooding, especially in a community like South Patrick Shores with its relatively low elevation. Also, considering Florida’s flat topography, even a small rise in sea levels caused by a storm surge can result in large horizontal inland intrusions of water. Looking back over the past 30 years, the most significant hurricane that affected South Patrick Shores was Hurricane Irma in 2017. This monstrous storm caused widespread flooding and destruction, with South Patrick Shores being one of the heavily hit areas. Other notable systems that have impacted the area include Hurricane Jeanne and Frances in 2004. Accompanying these high wind events is always the threat of tornadoes, a secondary but serious threat to the area. So, given these factors, residents should pay attention to evacuation orders during hurricane events and should make adequate preparations for their homes.
