About Orlovista.
Orlovista, Florida is located in Orange County, just a few miles from the east coast. Its proximity to the coast makes it quite vulnerable to hurricanes due to potential storm surge and hurricane-generated rainfall. In addition, Orlovista is relatively low-lying, with an average elevation of only 98 feet, which exacerbates the risk of flooding during major storm events. With hurricanes, precipitation can be extensive and torrential, introducing a high flood risk to the area, especially when storm surge combines with high tides. This flood risk is especially threatening considering Orlovista's historical vulnerability to flooding: during Hurricane Irma in 2017, large portions of the area experienced significant flood damage. Looking at past storm events, Orlovista was severely impacted by Hurricane Irma, one of the strongest storms on record, which devastated the area with significant wind damage and precipitated catastrophic flooding. Prior to Irma, the town was also affected by the triple hurricanes of 2004: Charley, Frances, and Jeanne. Each storm, arriving within weeks of each other, triggered widespread power losses, structural damage, and considerable flooding in Orlovista. Given this chain of historical events, future storms warrant comprehensive preparatory measures and keen vigilance by Orlovista residents, community leaders, and emergency management planners.
