About Pimmit Hills.
Pimmit Hills, Virginia, though situated considerably inland compared to towns directly on the Atlantic coast, nonetheless has a history of experiencing hurricane-driven impacts. Proximity to the broad Potomac River basin and several smaller creeks increases its risk of flooding due to excessive rainfall, a frequent effect of the large and slow-moving significant tropical cyclones. Given its relatively low-lying elevation, Pimmit Hills could potentially experience flooding, particularly in event of torrential rains or rapid snowmelt. Over the past 30 years, numerous significant tropical cyclones and major floods have impacted the region. Perhaps the most significant being Hurricane Isabel in 2003 which unleashed heavy rains and resulted in extensive flooding, affecting countless homes and businesses in Pimmit Hills. Moreover, heavy rain events triggered by remnants of Hurricane Lee in 2011 and more recently Hurricane Matthew in 2016 led to localized flooding and moderate damage in the area. Despite the substantial inland position, residents of Pimmit Hills should be aware of the risk of flooding and strong winds during the Atlantic hurricane season and have an established plan for such events.
