Winding Cypress, Florida, is a community that, although slightly inland, is still generally vulnerable to the impacts of hurricanes and tropical storms due to its proximity to the Coast. Depending on the hurricane's size and intensity, residents can experience high winds, heavy rainfall, and consequent flooding. This flooding is largely due to the region's relatively low elevation and the community's surrounding water bodies that can intensify the effects of storm surge and heavy rainfall. In the event of a direct hit, infrastructure, homes, and local vegetation may be severely damaged. Notably, Hurricane Irma in 2017 passed nearby, bringing significant rainfall and subsequent flooding to the area, and teaching the community valuable lessons about preparing for such natural disasters. Moreover, the community was also affected by Hurricane Andrew in 1992, which was one of the strongest storms to hit Florida in recent history. In essence, given Winding Cypress' location and historical experiences with severe weather events, it remains essential for the community to maintain a high level of preparedness and vigilance, especially during Florida's hurricane season from June to November.
