About Kendall.
Kendall, Florida, needs to be on high alert during hurricane season due to several factors related to its geographical location. The town, located less than 20 miles from the coast, is considerably exposed to the impacts of tropical systems, including coastal storm surge and severe winds, despite not being directly on the coast itself. Additionally, Kendall's relatively low elevation makes it highly susceptible to flood risks. Historically, South Florida has had a recurrent flood problem due to water accumulation during heavy storms, both from direct rain and storm surges from the nearby Atlantic Ocean and Biscayne Bay. Over the past 30 years, numerous major hurricanes have impacted Kendall, including Andrew in 1992, Katrina in 2005, and Irma in 2017. Hurricane Andrew, category 5, was the most devastating, causing widespread damage and flooding. Similarly, both Hurricane Katrina and Irma, although not as intense as Andrew when they passed over Kendall, also brought heavy rains leading to significant flooding in the region. Therefore, local residents and authorities must always pay close heed to the weather reports during hurricane season and ensure that all necessary preparations and precautions are taken.
