About Olga.
Given Olga's location in the central part of Florida, it's somewhat removed from the immediate coastline. This means there's a slightly lower risk for direct hurricane landfall in comparison to coastal communities. However, despite this fact, hurricanes can still cause severe damage due to high winds, heavy rainfall and potential tornado spawns. Furthermore, even though Olga is at a relatively higher elevation than coastal towns, the town is still at risk of freshwater flooding due to potentially high rainfall accumulation during hurricanes. The close proximity to the Caloosahatchee River could also give rise to increased flood risk. Historically, Olga has indeed been affected by major hurricanes. Hurricane Charley, for instance, caused significant damage in 2004 with its high wind speeds and heavy flooding. Additionally, in 2017, Hurricane Irma had a substantial impact on this area. These events serve as potent reminders that despite it's inland location, Olga is certainly prone to—not immune from—the splattering effects of powerful storms. Of particular concern would be the potential for loss of life, structural damage, power outages, destruction of transportation infrastructure and disruption of day-to-day life.
