Jacob City, located in Jackson County, Florida, presents unique challenges when faced with hurricane threats due to its more inland position. While coastal areas are often most immediately threatened by hurricane landfall, Jacob City's approximate 65-miles distance from the coastline does not exempt it from serious impacts. While the initial storm surge may not directly impact the city, torrential rains that accompany hurricanes can lead to significant flooding despite the town's relatively high elevation of 154 feet. Proximity to rivers or other bodies of water can also greatly affect the potential for flood damage in such events. Well-drained soil can mitigate, but not entirely prevent, the risk. Historically, Jacob City has experienced some notable hurricanes and related severe weather incidences over the past 30 years. The most significant of these was perhaps Hurricane Michael in 2018, which caused widespread devastation in Florida's Panhandle, including Jacob City.
