About Hill 'n Dale.
Hill 'n Dale, located inland in Hernando County, Florida, is relatively protected from the immediate storm surge threats that coastal communities face. However, its location does not entirely exempt it from the potential onslaught brought on by hurricanes. Given the mostly flat landscape, heavy precipitation induced by hurricanes or tropical storms can lead to extensive flooding. The town's elevation is generally 100 feet or less above sea level, increasing its vulnerability to such flood risks. Historically, Hill 'n Dale has been within the path of several significant tropical systems. In 2004, the region was notably impacted by hurricanes Frances and Jeanne, which passed only weeks apart and resulted in extensive damage across Hernando County. More recently, Hurricane Irma in 2017 caused record flooding in numerous inland areas across Florida, including communities in Hernando County. While hurricanes are a less frequent occurrence here than within coastal areas, the threat they pose should not be underestimated, especially due to the potential for flooding and strong winds.
